Host Like Sophia Pelizzoli

Summer Series #3

Sophia Pelizzoli - Renowned table stylist, cook and ceramicist

Meet Sophia, British based ceramicist, known for her distinctly bold, and joyful designs. When she’s not in the studio she’s cooking up rustic, flavour-packed dishes, inspired by her European heritage and hosting long sun-soaked lunches where her ceramics take centre stage. We sat down with Sophia to chat about the key steps to making a summer soirée feel as effortless as it is unforgettable.

Her perfect table: “Bursting with tulips, fresh colours and linens, a bottle of white wine on ice and a generous spread of spring-inspired dishes to share.”

Go-to table styling trick: "Having one ingredient, colour or flower that leads the table decor, whether that’s a bunch of green parrot tulips or a set of deep blue plates. Unless I’m going for an opulent feast, when it comes to tablescaping I always think less is more.”

Favourite meal to serve: “For me, spring is asparagus, wild garlic and lemon. I love a cool asparagus salad with burrata and wild garlic pesto, followed by a tangy lemon pasta. Pudding is probably the last of the season’s forced rhubarb and ice cream, a grown-up chocolate olive oil mousse, or a lemon polenta cake with crème fraîche.”

Handy hosting advice: “The illusion of effortlessness is key. Kick off your shoes, get the wine flowing and pre prepare as much as you can. You always want guests to arrive to a beautifully-laid table, even if you have them waiting hours (drinks and nibbles essential!) for dinner.”

Where she’s entertaining: "Sempre a casa. And if there’s the tiniest chink of sunlight, I’m taking it outside.”

Favourite Clio and Clover Piece: “The linen scalloped edged place mats are such an easy, elegant way to elevate any table, whether you’re going for the full table linen shebang for dinner or just throwing together a quick al fresco lunch.”
